Romantic Cannon

1. Yuri X Victor (Yuri on Ice)

As someone who is not typically a fan of romance, I wasn’t really expecting to like this. The beginning of the show seemed to present itself like a cheap wattpad story – some naive, clumsy, insecure girl gets the interest of a guy way out of her league. Except this time that naive girl was actually a guy: Yuri. Who managed to get the attention of his Russian figure-skating idol: Victor. And through Victor’s mentorship, he learns to discover his sensuality… *sigh*.

It actually took me until episode 7 to realize what this romance was actually trying to get at, despite its cliched setup. Seeing the pure emotions from Yuri, and how much Victor cared about him, this show proved to be more than just a cheap wattpad story. Unfortunately, this anime also faced huge budget and production restraints, resulting in lots of scenes either getting poorly animated or never animated at all. As such, most of my problems with this romance stem from the poor animation and rushed arcs, which were the result of those restraints. However, what we did get was still so touching that it managed to secure its spot as my favorite romance in Anime that I have seen thus far.

2. Yukiatsu X Tsurumi (Anohana)

It’s a shame Anohana didn’t focus as much on the relationship between these two. Yukiatsu was probably the character I felt the most sorry for in the show, besides Menma, and seeing Tsurumi have his back really touched me. Plus her constant level-headedness and reliability was a great balance to all the emotional drama that the show ruminated in. They both had been practically inseparable already, and after realizing they each had deep problems that the other could help to resolve, I couldn’t help but cheer when Yukiatsu reciprocated Tsurumi’s confession.

3. Taiga X Ryuuji (Toradora)

As stated previously, I am not normally a fan of romances. However, Taiga and Ryuuji’s first kiss was so cute that I couldn’t help but ship them after that.

Favorite Jojo’s

I finally finished all that has been released of the Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure anime . And I have to say that I absolutely loved it. I can’t seem to stop thinking about it, so I think I’m going to rank my thoughts about it organize them better.

Favorite “Jojo”

5. Jotaro Kujo

In the first episode, when Jotaro was introduced, I really hated him. He called his mother a bitch, disrespected his grandfather, and just seemed really stuck up. As the season continued, however, the kind-heartedness of his ancestors began to show and I eventually grew to be ok with him. Although he was the main character, I didn’t feel like I really knew much about him. He seemed a bit one-dimensional and almost Mary Sue-ish. I don’t hate him anymore, but he’s just an okay character to me; not great but not bad either.

4. Jonathan Joestar

Like Jotaro, Jonathan was also a bit one-dimensional and Mary Sue-ish. However, I really admired his noble spirit and passion. Jonathan is also just an ok character, but an ok character that is very honest and brave. Which is why I place him as Number 4.

3. Josuke Higashikata

Now this is where it starts getting into characters that I absolutely love. Josuke is so sweet and caring and kind. Yet, insult his hair, and you’re going to regret it. I loved how soft and humble he was, yet clever and full of life. He felt like a genuine kid I could come across at a middle or high school. One of my favorite episodes in Part 4 was when he, Okuyasu, and Shigechi were scheming on how to get rich. You could just see the pure innocence and joy on their faces. He’s like this mischievous but sweet little kid you can’t help but love.

2. Giorno Giovanna

Reserved yet extremely perceptive and analytical, a delinquent yet exceptionally knowledgeable and well-mannered, kind-hearted yet manipulative and morally lenient. Somehow this kid inherited Jonathan’s noble heart, passion, and ability to win people over as well as the tactical mind Joseph had also inherited from somewhere. All while still making these talents his own in order to help others. Whenever another character got into really deep trouble while he was around, they could always rely on him to step in and orchestrate their victory. The fact that he’s ranked number 2 even though he was barely in his own part just shows how badass he was every time he showed up.

1. Joseph Joestar

The one, the only, Joseph. From the first instant he was introduced, he stole every scene he was in. Clumsy and immature but still well-meaning and somehow lazily genius, this man managed to worm his way out of every mess he was in through the most insane amount of asspulls. And your next line will be “but doesn’t that also make him a Mary Sue-ish character too?” Yes, in a sense, but the way he handled everything was just so crazy and bizarre you just had to keep watching this beautiful mess of a man.

The Beginning

Featured

Hello! I’ve never actually had a blog before, but I’ve decided to make one to document my Anime journey. Although I’m still not quite sure if I will always only be sticking to Anime, or if I will also expand to other foreign genres as well in the future.

At the moment I’m currently a struggling college student trying to keep up with her classes, so I’m not quite sure how often I will be able to post. But I do plan on posting here every time I finish a series, since I’m planning for this to be kind of like my personal Anime diary from now on. So I guess I’m mostly writing here to keep track of my own opinions and for personal reference. But if anyone else happens to come across here, welcome! I hope that whatever I’m going to post here will be helpful to you in some way!

A Weak Start

My first experience with Anime was when I was around 13 years old (so 2011-ish). Some of my friends were into it, so I decided to try watching something and somehow ended up with Fullmetal Alchemist (the original). I absolutely loved the first few episodes, especially since action and adventure were my favorite genres at the time, and was impatient to find out what would happen after the whole Father Cornello mess. Unfortunately, I couldn’t stand to sit through the seemingly endless episodes of backstory, and ended up quitting after watching a few of them. I essentially gave up on Anime after that.

Rekindled Curiosity

Years later, during the summer of 2018, I was aimlessly watching random movie reviews when I came across a review for Netflix’s Death Note. By that time, action adventure was no longer my undisputed love, but was contested by psychological thrillers. Although the reviewer had sworn himself to be spoiler-free, he did end up touching a bit on the Anime version’s general plot, which to my surprise seemed exactly like what I was really into at that time. And by the end of the week I had already finished the show.

Now, almost a year later, I have gone through about 15 shows. Anime isn’t the only thing I’ve been watching, and I’ve been trying to focus on my studies as well, but from what I have seen I really love this medium. So far my favorite show is probably My Hero Academia with Death Note and Haikyuu close behind it. Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure and Hunter x Hunter would have also been on this list if not for a couple arcs that weren’t so great. But that discussion is for another day.

Anyways, it’s getting pretty late and I’ve already spent way longer than I should have to type this out and insert those pictures. I look forward to sharing my thoughts on what little experience I have so far with Anime, and continuing my journey through these posts!
